Safety in the Mountains

  • Follow the leaders instructions at all times and do not detach yourself from the group.
  • Inform someone beforehand where you intend walking.
  • Know how to contact Mountain Rescue.
  • Check the weather forecast but be prepared for all types of weather as the mountains are often unpredictable.
  • Take out insurance in case of accidents.
  • Do a mountain skills course and learn how to map- read.
  • Calculate to arrive at your final destination at least one hour before darkness.
  • Do not walk under the influence of drink or drugs.
These instructions are not exhaustive be sure to ask experienced hillwalkers for advice.
